Yep, I also wasn't that comfortable with Luhrmann stylistic presentation (because this is the first of his works that I have ever seen), but luckily "The Great Gatsby" gets more enthralling to the ending.
DiCaprio was just perfect as Gatsby. I think this is the best movie I've seen so far in 2013.Akbar Saputrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05771371214406039020noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6915202154953031948.post-87016828635686282792013-05-20T22:46:50.326+01:002013-05-20T22:46:50.326+01:00It's good that we both enjoyed it despite comi...It's good that we both enjoyed it despite coming at it from different angles. I only finished it the same day I saw the film and I loved it so much, it's impossible not to compare them.

You're spot on about Carey Mulligan. She is the most perfect Daisy imaginable. Debicki is also perfect as Jordan. Wonderful casting.

I also nearly used the fairytale comparison in my review but left it out in the end. Spot on though. The book is in my bag ready for you tomorrow.Richardhttp://ilikedthatfilm.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6915202154953031948.post-76877665998042310312013-05-20T21:41:02.308+01:002013-05-20T21:41:02.308+01:00Most of the negative things I'm hearing are in...Most of the negative things I'm hearing are in relation to the book so I was quite glad I saw the movie first. And you're right about the production design. As I was watching this movie, I couldn't help but think that this would have been an impressive film if it was an original screenplay. Unfortunately, I had knowledge of the Fitzgerald's wonderful prose so it couldn't fully live up to that.

Overall, it's really not a bad film. I mostly enjoyed it and was never bored. The casting was absolutely perfect when you compare to the descriptions in the novel and the costume and production design was impeccable.
